The Oklahoma Sooners can definitely see the finish line in the race for 2027 five-star linebacker Cooper Witten, but nothing has been won yet.
Witten, the son of new OU tight ends coach Jason Witten, was immediately predicted to commit to the Sooners after his dad got the new job last month, but that only influenced other SEC programs to crank up the pressure to keep Witten from actually joining his father in Norman.
Georgia trying to steal Cooper Witten from Sooners despite Jason Witten connection
Obviously Jason has been quiet about his son's recruitment because of his new gig, but his wife and Cooper's mom, Michelle, posted via X on Monday about Cooper's full weekend of visits between the Sooners and Georgia Bulldogs.
OU head coach Brent Venables, along with linebackers coach Nate Dreiling and safeties coach Brandon Hall, on Friday took a helicopter to visit Cooper at Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas, where Jason was the head coach before his career move to OU. Venables & Co. also dropped in with their helicopter to Southlake Carroll High School to visit 2027 offensive line commit Luke Wilson.

With the Sooners continuing to push hard for Cooper's commitment knowing it's not a guarantee, Georgia and head coach Kirby Smart hosted Cooper during their junior day on Saturday. Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann also visited Cooper in Texas two weeks before the Bulldogs welcomed him to Georgia.
Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has also visited Cooper since his dad joined the Sooners' staff. Jason also played at Tennessee, so Josh Heupel and the Volunteers, who Cooper visited twice during 2025, still can't be counted out either.
Elite. Set apart.

Thank you, @OU_Football and @GeorgiaFootball , for an unforgettable 24 hours.@CooperWitten_ pic.twitter.com/TnssiEFoGI
Although the Sooners were the first ones to offer Cooper back in June 2024 and now have his dad on staff to have the upper-hand, other SEC programs are obviously not giving up on getting the five-star talent to their program, so Venables and his staff can't let up until Cooper signs to be a Sooner.
