The folks in Austin are getting desperate for the Oklahoma Sooners to have loss like their beloved Texas Longhorns.
The Sooners beat Auburn 24-17 on Saturday in Norman to improve to 4-0 and should be 5-0 heading into the Red River Rivalry with just Kent State standing between. However, a controversial touchdown play has been what's stolen headlines from the Sooners' SEC opener, even days later, and because of that one play, a Texas writer believes OU's win should be vacated.
Did Oklahoma use the substitution rule to deceive Auburn? If so, obviously illegal, according to Matt Austin, ESPN's rules analyst. Hard to judge intent. pic.twitter.com/4YWgYv2Ss2

Texas writer believes Sooners' win vs. Auburn should be vacated
On3's Inside Texas writer Paul Wadlington released an article making the preposterous claim that the Sooners' win should be vacated, even after sacking Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold nine times and shutting down the Tigers' potential game-winning drive.
The article is behind a paywall, but the post for the article got its point across and went viral as Sooner Nation laughed at the take from a fan without even a dog in the fight.
"Oklahoma deliberately cheated to beat Auburn. What should be done about it? Paul Wadlington says vacate OU's win," Inside Texas wrote in its post.
First, even for those who believe the play was illegal, it's made clear the Sooners did not "deliberately cheat." OU's coaching staff cleared the play with officials pregame, which is common practice for any unusual play or formation. The entire play also unfolded right in front of the eyes of an official, as OU wide receiver Isaiah Sategna even checked he was set with that official.
The post later got a community note on X to point this out.
The SEC released a statement after the game that officials did not enforce the rule correctly and the score shouldn't have counted. However, the rule in question, as many have pointed out, is poorly written and is basically a judgment call trying to guess a player's intent for a "hideout tactic."
Auburn fans are rightfully upset. OU fans would be, too. However, there's no real reason why this would bother a Texas fan so much. But every fan base deals with calls it believes is questionable every week. Then the result still stands, life goes on and it's known there were plenty of opportunity for either team to change the outcome during the game.
After days of arguing with Auburn fans, Sooner Nation took time to roast the take from Texas.
OU coaches: Hey Mr. Official, can we do this one play?

SEC Officials: Sure, no problem.
Isaiah Sategna: Mr. Official, is my alignment good.

I am a company man. Thus, my only comment is that I fail to see any remotely positive value that THAT editorial brings to the larger network’s public perception.

It’s blatantly detrimental, sensationalist, and willfully ignorant of actual facts.
