There's a new name Oklahoma fans need to know, but it should be an easy one.
Bowling Green transfer linebacker Gideon ESPN Lampron, who takes pride in his middle name pronounced like "Ess-pen" and after the sports network, announced via X on Friday that he received an offer from the Sooners. He's also already announced offers from TCU, Colorado and Virginia on the first day the portal was open. However, without looking too much into it, he pinned his post about OU's offer to the top of his profile so it's still above the newer offers.

Lampron has went viral because of his middle name, but he's also getting noticed because of his play. He was just named First-Team All-MAC after leading Bowling Green in nearly every defensive stat with 119 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, a pass deflection and two forced fumbles this season as a junior. His total tackles ranked 10th in the FBS this season and he tied for the fifth-most TFLs.
It was Lampron's only season at Bowling Green after transferring from Dayton, where he spent his first three years after signing with the Flyers in 2022. While at Dayton, Lampron was near the top of the FCS in several defensive stats and was named an FCS All-American by multiple outlets. He then jumped to the FBS level, and after getting to Bowling Green in the spring, he was quickly named one of four team captains for the 2025 season.
Saturday Blitz ranks Lampron as the No. 7 linebacker in the portal.

The Sooners could be in dire need of linebackers with a chance no starters from 2025 return. OU is still waiting on Kip Lewis' decision to return or enter the NFL Draft, Owen Heinecke ran out of eligibility but has requested another year from the NCAA and still awaiting confirmation, and cheetah Kendal Daniels is for sure out of eligibility. The Sooners also lost Kobie McKinzie to the portal.
That looming roster overhaul and Lampron's past success everywhere else he's been could make him an immediate contributor, if not a starter, in Brent Venables' defense in 2026 if he chooses the Sooners.
