The battle for Carter Scruggs mirrors the ones he'll have in the trenches one day.
According to Chad Simmons of On3, it's become a "really tight race" for Scruggs, a top-10 2026 offensive lineman, between Oklahoma, Georgia, Clemson, Michigan, Penn State and Virginia Tech with official visit now here for final pitches.
Oklahoma's Carter Scruggs fight now hinges on visits and final pitch
Scruggs has not technically announced a top schools list, but it seems this would be it with other offers from Alabama, Florida State, Miami, Missouri, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, USC and more.
Listed at 6-foot-6 and 270 pounds, Scruggs is a consensus four-star recruit from Loudoun County High School in Virginia. The 247Sports Composite ranks Scruggs as the No. 12 interior offensive lineman in the 2026 class and No. 7 overall prospect in Virginia. Based on its own ratings alone, 247Sports ranks Scruggs as the No. 9 interior offensive lineman in the country.
Unfortunately for the Sooners, of the six programs in the midst of the Scruggs sweepstakes, OU and Virginia Tech are the only ones he doesn't have official visits scheduled for this summer yet. Virginia Tech, though, has the benefit of being in Scruggs' backyard. However, Scruggs was in Norman on April 10 for an unofficial visit.
Scruggs' first official visit will be to Clemson this weekend. He will then be at Michigan on June 6, Penn State on June 13 and Georgia on June 20, which is OU's big ChampU recruiting weekend. Heading into these official visits, major recruiting services are split between Clemson and Penn State when predicting Scruggs' destination.
The Sooners have one offensive lineman from the 2026 class committed so far in three-star recruit Will Conroy from IMG Academy in Florida. Overall, OU has seven 2026 commitments to make up the No. 38 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.
