It's not just players jumping aboard the Oklahoma football program right now.
According to multiple reports, the Sooners hired Kale Pearson as Director of High School Recruiting. OU hasn't made an official announcement, but Pearson has changed his social media bios to reflect the job title.
Sooners hire Kale Pearson as Director of High School Recruiting
Pearson is an Oklahoman who played quarterback at local powerhouse Tulsa Union, where he was part of three straight state championships and started two seasons at quarterback.
Those connections could be a huge asset in the Sooners landing local talent that seems to keep multiplying in the state. His father, Preston, is also a long-time high school football coach in the state and is now the head coach at Skiatook.
After graduating Union in 2011, Pearson, at only 5-foot-9, went to the Air Force Academy to play quarterback. He was the Falcons' backup in 2012 before beginning 2013 as their starter, but was injured in the season opener.
Pearson was eventually named a team captain as a senior in 2014 and earned the Brian Bullard Memorial Award, which is the highest honor for an Air Force football player. During that season, the Falcons were 10-3 with Pearson leading the offense.
Air Force then added Pearson as a graduate assistant for a year before he started his active duty service. He then served as a logistics officer and deployment officer of the 552nd Air Control Wing at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma.
Pearson was then an operations manager at Amazon in Oklahoma City before becoming the Director of Recruiting at Air Force for four seasons.
With an emphasis on adding talent from the transfer portal, the Sooners adding Pearson's position showed recruiting from the high school ranks is still important to the program.
