It was finally time for the defensive side of the ball to benefit from the Oklahoma Sooners' 2027 recruiting magnet.

Collin Kennedy of 247Sports reported via X on Monday morning that consensus four-star cornerback Mikhail McCreary became the Sooners' fifth addition and first defender to their 2027 recruiting class so far. Four of those commitments came during this month as the Sooners' 4-0 start has prompted a recruiting resurgence.

Mikhail McCreary commits to Sooners

According to the 247Sports Composite, McCreary is the No. 18 CB in the class and the No. 28 prospect in the state of Texas out of Claudia Taylor Johnson High School in San Antonio. He also brings a lot of versatility in the secondary, with 247Sports' Gabe Brooks writing in his scouting report that McCreary also has the ability to play nickel and free safety at the college level.

McCreary chose the Sooners over offers from Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, SMU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and more. He was most recently in Norman for the Sooners' win over Michigan in Week 2, then visited Texas Tech the next week.

More defensive targets will surely join McCreary soon wanting to be a part of Brent Venables' stellar defense. Hayes Fawcett of Rivals and On3 posted Sunday evening that the Sooners had two commitments coming soon, with McCreary being the first of the pair.

The Sooners' other four commits so far include five-star OL Cooper Hackett, four-star OL Kaeden Penny, four-star WR Demare Dezeurn and three-star OL Luke Wilson. Similar to what the Sooners will experience on Monday, Hackett and Penny committed within minutes of each other on Thursday.

OU already had a top-5 2027 recruiting class in the country even before Monday at No. 3, behind only Penn State and Miami.
