With eight national titles, twice a national runner-up and 17 Women's College World Series appearances this century, it's fairly easy to understand how Oklahoma has been the most dominant college softball program the past two-and-a-half decades.
The Sooners' eight national championships are tied for second all-time with Arizona, four fewer than UCLA's even dozen. All of Oklahoma's national titles, however, have been since 2000. UCLA has four over that time and Arizona three.
Since 2000 under coach Patty Gasso, who is in her 31st season at OU, the Sooners have posted three 60-win season and two with 59 wins, including the 2024 season, with a high of 66 wins in 2000. Both UCLA and Arizona have just one 60-win season during that span.
In addition, Oklahoma softball has finished No. 1 in the final USA Today/NFCA poll eight times since the 2000 season, including each of the last four seasons, and in the top five 14 times.
The phenomenal accomplishments of the Oklahoma softball program also include seven current NCAA team records and at least three individual career records.
