Oklahoma's 2025 softball recruiting class consisted of five signees. Four of the five not only have found their way into this season's starting lineup for the Sooners, but also are contributing at an elite level.

Outfielder Kai Minor, pitcher Allyssa Parker, infielder Lexi McDaniel and catcher Kendall Wells were all members of head coach Patty Gasso's No. 1 2025 class, and all came to Oklahoma as top-5 national prospects, according to Rivals. Minor was the top-rated national prospect, and she was followed by No. 2 Parker, No. 3 McDaniel and No. 5 Wells.

Kendall Wells and Kai Minor already nearing Sooners history

All four members of this standout quartet literally hit the ground running in their inaugural season in a Sooner uniform. And they've not only been prime contributors to an Oklahoma offense that leads the national in most of the major statistical categories, but are also among the national individual leaders.

Wells has played in 30 of the Sooners' 31 games, and her 22 home runs lead the nation. She also ranks fourth in the nation in slugging percentage and her 47 RBI are in the top 10 in Division-I softball.

As a team, OU leads the nation in hitting with a collective batting average of .452, and the freshman Minor leads the Sooners, hitting .525 with 24 RBI and an on-base percentage of .553. Her .525 batting average is the highest among freshmen nationally and ranks 10th-best overall.

While Oklahoma is loaded with power up and down the lineup, Minor brings a different element to the offense. She has six doubles and four of the Sooners' six triples this season and has stolen 10 bases.

"It's intimidating, to say the least," Gasso said of Minor's speed. "But what she's doing is, besides just stealing bases, hitting a ball through a gap."

Both Wells and Minor are on a pace that would break OU program records for both home runs and highest batting average for a season. Jocelyn Alo holds the Oklahoma record for the two highest batting averages for a single season (.515 in 2022 and .475 in 2021), and she also holds the record for the most home runs in a season (34). Wells is just 13 away from breaking that record with half a season still to play.

Wells and Minor aren't the only two OU freshmen, however, meeting and exceeding expectations in their first season in college softball.

McDaniel is one of four Sooners hitting .500 or better, and she also has exhibited some power with eight home runs and 23 RBI in 28 games. And Parker is performing double duty for the Sooners as both a pitcher and utility player.

"She's a phenomenal athlete," Gasso said of Parker. "If she's not pitching, she's likely to being playing some position, because she's that athletic. She can play short, second, first and can play the outfield."

As a pitcher, Parker, a No. 1 prospect from the state of Oklahoma who did not get away, is 4-0 in four starts in the circle with an ERA of 2.15. But she is also a big-time hitter. In 28 games, she is hitting .378 and is one of six different OU players with at least 10 home runs.

Oklahoma's decade-plus dominance in the sport of college softball is largely the result of Gasso's ability to attract, sign and develop the best talent in the country and keep the pipeline flowing with top players like Minor, Parker, McDaniel and Wells. The Sooners also have the top 2026 recruiting class coming in for next season.

With three more years of eligibility remaining for each of these phenomenal freshmen, Sooner fans can expect to see a lot more of the same in the immediate years to come.
