Patty Gasso's Oklahoma Sooners are back in their usual spot atop the college softball world.

For the first time this season, the Sooners were No. 1 in the latest ESPN / USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 that was revealed on Tuesday.

OU is the third team this season to get the No. 1 spot as opponents keep toppling the top team. Most recently, Texas fell to then-No. 20 Stanford 9-5 on Friday. The Longhorns barely even dropped to No. 2 behind OU, while the Cardinal barely rose to No. 18.

That upset opened the door for the Sooners to slide up one spot from No. 2. OU also climbed to No. 1 in the most recent D1Softball Top 25.

Texas took the No. 1 spot from preseason favorite Florida. Then-No. 14 Duke run-ruled the Gators 9-0 in five innings on Feb. 14. Florida is still in the top three at No. 3.

The Sooners are still undefeated at 14-0 through three weeks of the season. OU has had an underwhelming schedule so far after undergoing massive roster turnover, but has still managed to avoid slipping up regardless of competition.

OU's only ranked wins so far were to Baylor twice, but both were run-rule victories in Waco, Texas. The Sooners have also survived three extra-inning scares, along with six run-rules.

Most recently, the Sooners went 4-0 at their own Norman Tournament with wins against Tulsa, Wichita State, Bowling Green and Abilene Christian.

The Sooners will stay home for five games this weekend at Love's Field. OU will host Kansas, Marshall and Kansas City. The Sooners will play Kansas and Marshall both twice before finishing the week against Kansas City on Sunday.

That will be the end of an easy schedule, though. The Sooners will start their first SEC season with a home series against No. 21 South Carolina next weekend.
