Oklahoma's decisive 24-3 win over Alabama on Saturday earned the Sooners national honors as the Cheez-It National Team of the Week. The Football Writers Association of American selects the weekly winner every week during the college season among all FBS and FCS schools

This is the eighth time Oklahoma has been selected as the FWAA National Team of the Week since the honor was first introduced in 2002 and the first time since 2019, when the Sooners came from 25 points down to defeat Baylor 35-31.

In addition to the national honor, three Sooners also were named SEC Players of the Week for their performance in the win over Alabama.

North Texas transfer Febechi Nwaiwu was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week, R Mason Thomas Defensive Lineman of the Week and running back Xavier Robinson Freshman of the Week.

In addition, it was announced that OU All-American linebacker Danny Stutsman is one of five finalists for the Butkus Award, which goes every year to college football's most outstanding linebacker. Three Oklahoma players have won this prestigious award since it was introduced in 1985: Brian Bosworth (1985 and '86), Rocky Calmus (2001) and Teddy Lehman (2003).

Nwaiwu was an immovable force and a key factor in the Sooners' ability gain 257 rushing yards, the most given up this season by the Alabama defense. R Mason Thomas was a major disrupter on defense for the Sooners, recording three tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a sack and two quarterback hurries, one of which led to an interception late in the game by defensive back Woodi Washington.

Robinson, a true freshman from Yukon, Oklahoma, carried the ball 18 times for a career-high 107 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also caught four passes for another 20 yards.

Oklahoma (6-6, 2-5) ends the regular season on Saturday at LSU (7-4, 4-3).
