It's now on to the NCAA Tournament for the Oklahoma Sooners.
The fifth-seeded Sooners lost to top seed South Carolina 93-75 in the semifinals of the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday. The loss ended a nine-game winning streak for OU that included two victories in the tournament this week.
It's not the end for the Sooners, though, who are comfortably in the field of 68 for the NCAA Tournament at 25-7. They most likely improved their seeding this week, especially after getting revenge over 4 seed Kentucky on Friday.
OU was just overmatched Saturday, though, against defending national champion South Carolina. The Gamecocks quicklt obtained a 23-15 lead in the first quarter, then tacked on more in the second to lead 45-28 at halftime.
South Carolina was able to shut down OU's leading scorer, junior center Raegan Beers. Beers entered the game averaging 17.5 points a game but scored only seven in Saturday's loss. She had scored at least 20 points in OU's first two games in the SEC Women's Basketball Tournament.
Sophomore forward Sahara Wiliams led the Sooners with 17 points against South Carolina thanks to a trio of 3-pointers. Payton Verhulst also made three from beyind the arc to put up 15 points. Reyna Scott also reached double digits with 10 points.
It will now be a week of waiting for the Sooners until Selection Sunday. The women's NCAA Tournament bracket is scheduled to be released at 7 p.m. CT March 16 on ESPN.
Unlike the OU men, the women don't have any worry if they'll get in or not. The OU women are also most likely going to get to host the first two rounds in Norman as a top 4 seed.
