A fan-favorite of Oklahoma State fans could soon be playing for the Cowboys’ Bedlam rival.

Collin Kennedy of 247Sports reported that OSU tight end Josh Ford, who entered the Transfer Portal after head coach Mike Gundy was fired, is expected to visit Oklahoma on Saturday when the Sooners host Ole Miss for a top-15 matchup.

Josh Ford visiting Oklahoma

Ford was immediately beloved by OSU fans as a Stillwater product who stayed home to play for the Cowboys. He then played in all 12 games as a freshman last year and started six times. He was one of just two freshmen to crack the starting lineup last season for the Cowboys.

Listed at a towering 6-foot-6, Ford caught 10 passes for 92 yards and an 18-yard touchdown last season. In just four games this season and likely to redshirt, Ford has three receptions for 45 yards and scored a TD in his last appearance against Baylor on Sept. 27. Ford then entered the Transfer Portal after that Baylor game.

Because of this year’s redshirt, Ford will still have three years of eligibility left with 16 games and 10 starts already under his belt.

Tight end has been a weakness for the Sooners the past few seasons under position coach Joe Jon Finley. Fans were especially frustrated by the lack of talent the Sooners added to the position from the Transfer Portal this offseason, with none of the portal additions coming from the Power Four level. Comparatively, Ford would be, at least on paper, the best player Finley nabbed from the portal if Saturday’s visit goes well.

The Sooners are trying to benefit from Gundy’s midseason firing at OSU. Outside of Ford visiting, OSU starting right guard Noah McKinney has also reportedly included OU in his top-5 options for his next destination when he transfers from OSU at the end of the season.
