Oklahoma's loss to Missouri this past weekend -- the Sooners' first of the season -- cost them the top spot in the national rankings.

The Sooners (29-1) took over the No. 1 spot in the national rankings after the third week of the season when preseason No. 1 Texas lost to Stanford in the Hillenbrand Invitational in Tucson, Arizona.

Despite suffering their second loss of the season a little over a week ago in an SEC series at No. 3 Florida, the Longhorns were able to leap over the Sooners back into the top spot in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.

Texas garnered 17 first-place votes to eight that went for Oklahoma. Those were the only two teams that received first-place votes.

Three SEC schools occupied the next three spots in this week's rankings -- No. 3 LSU (29-2), No. 4 (30-4) and No. 5 Texas A&M (26-5) round out the top five -- and give the SEC the first five spots in the national rankings. In all, 12 SEC teams out of 16 were included in this week's top-25 rankings. Two other teams, Kentucky and Auburn, dropped out of the top 25 this week.

Given the number of SEC teams that are nationally ranked, virtually every weekend conference series is going to feature a matchup of ranked teams. Because of that, the weekly national rankings are likely to go through a number of changes over the next two months of the regular season.

As an example, Oklahoma hosts No. 10 Tennessee at Love's Field this weekend. This coming weekend also includes No. 17 Georgia at No. 25 Alabama, No. 1 Texas at No. 18 Mississippi State and No. 11 South Carolina at No. 3 LSU.

For those who are curious, Texas visits Norman for a huge national marquee series April 25-28.
