JJ Hester on Tueday announced via X that he planned to enter his name into the transfer portal after three years with the Sooners.

This will be Hester's second time in the portal after transferring from Missouri to OU before the 2022 season. Out of Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Hester originally chose Mizzou as a four-star recruit and was the Tigers' highest-rated prospect in the 2020 class.

Hester had a productive redshirt freshman season in Missouri but didn't see much action as a Sooner until this season. As a redshirt senior, he caught 14 passes for 315 yards and a TD. His receiving yards total was the most among OU wide receivers this season.

After missing most of 2022 and playing in only three games, Hester will have one year of eligibility left after five years of college already.

Hester is the third OU receiver to enter the transfer portal so far since it officially opened on Monday. Jaquaize Pettaway was the first, followed by Nic Anderson.

Both at 6-foot-4, Hester and Anderson brought some rare size to OU's receiving group. Now, Jayden Gibson, at 6-foot-5, is the only receiver on OU's roster listed taller than 6-foot-1.

The Sooners were thin at receiver this season with their top five receivers out most, if not all, of the season because of injuries. Young guys stepped up and got valuable experience, but OU will need to reach into the portal for more help at receiver, especially for players with some size on the outside.
