Norman, Oklahoma, is officially becoming Fansville, USA, to represent college football towns everywhere.
Norman City Council on Tuesday night approved an agreement with Dr Pepper/Seven Up, Inc. to paint the water tower on Lindsey Street with the "Fansville" logo that's based off the fictional town that's obsessed with college football in Dr Pepper's TV ads, which star Sooners legend Brian "The Boz" Bosworth.
I’m so prOUd and humbled that OUt of all of the worthy “Fansville” type college towns available that Norman is the Crimson and Cream of the crop! All of the college towns have a unique feel of passion & pride w fans the give their all…even if it seems overdramatic it is the…

Dr. Pepper's Fansville water tower could lead to more wins in the future
Bosworth, who got into acting after his successful football career, has played the sheriff of Fansville in Dr. Pepper's ads since 2018, which likely influenced Norman to be the location of the water tower, which will become a popular photo op for even visiting fan bases. Bosworth was ecstatic his old stomping grounds earned the honor.

"When Dr. Pepper decided they wanted to do a Fanville water tower, look, I got chills and got a little melancholy because it was like, man, that's some real stuff there. That is so cool that they're gonna do that," Bosworth said on The Plank Show on KREF Sports.
"But to pick Norman, the crimson and cream of the crop of the college football world, to come there -- and obviously I'm thinking that it's not coincidental -- but that they're going to represent the University of Oklahoma and Norman and the fans that come there are gonna represent Fansville. And Fansville is a representation of all the pride and passion of college football."
Brian Bosworth says the Dr. Pepper Fansville water tower coming to Norman is a really cool honor for OU.

He told @PlankShow that game days in Norman are still the best.

This really is a cool thing for Oklahoma fans and a win-win for both the city and university. Norman agreed to a 10-year deal with Dr. Pepper that will earn the city $500,00, including the initial payment of $75,000 that will help actually get the water tower painted, according to The Norman Transcript, as the old landmark gets an update. A decade from now, a Fansville water tower will feel like it's always been a part of Norman as a new landmark.
The project won't be completed by the Sooners' season opener against UTEP on Sept. 4, but is expected to be finished by Oct. 15, per The Norman Transcript. OU will host Kentucky that weekend with four home games left on the schedule.
The Fansville campaign has become somewhat of college football staple that fans expect at this point. Each Dr. Pepper ad is basically a mini episode full of jokes for a season-long storyline about the town and its characters. Now when it pops up on TV, OU fans won't only say, "Look, The Boz," but also gloat that Norman is Fansville. The real Norman will surely make an appearance at some point.
The ads have also featured current college football players alongside The Boz since NIL began, including former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers as Bosworth's deputy for a season. Bosworth, who remains one of the most iconic figures for the Sooners, admitted then he wasn't thrilled about working with a Longhorn.
Hopefully, though, Fansville now making Norman its headquarters will let more OU players to get the NIL opportunity, which means more money and more reason to stick around. Heck, he might still be busy, but Baker Mayfield would make a great Fansville mayor to lead the likes of John Mateer and Owen Heinecke with The Boz as his sheriff.
