Oklahoma safety Marcus Wimberly is leaving Norman before most OU fans ever even learned his name.
Hayes Fawcett of On3 reported Friday evening that Wimberly, a true freshman, plans to enter the Transfer Portal once it officially opens on Friday, Jan. 2. Wimberly confirmed the report by sharing Fawcett's post on X with a Bible verse while tagging his father and high school football coach, Tommy Wimberly.

According to OU's season participation report, Wimberly never played a snap while redshirting in what will be his lone season with the Sooners. He will have four years of eligibility left for wherever he ends up next.
Wimberly signed as a four-star recruit with the Sooners' 2025 class just last year. He was one of two safeties to sign with the group, joining Omarion Robinson, who was ranked higher than Wimberly based on recruiting ratings and appeared in eight games this season compared to none for Wimberly.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Wimberly was the No. 35 safety in the 2025 class and No. 3 overall prospect in the state of Arkansas out of Bauxite High School, where his father is an assistant coach. Robinson is also from Arkansas and was the No. 2 prospect in the state.
Wimberly originally committed to Arkansas early before the Sooners even offered. A day after OU finally offered, 247Sports already had a Crystal Ball prediction for Wimberly to ultimately choose the Sooners. The Razorbacks should be at the top of Wimberly's list again, now as a transfer prospect.
A week before the portal officially opens, the Sooners already had eight players expected to enter with the addition of Wimberly, also including wide receiver Jayden Gibson, defensive back Kendel Dolby, linebacker Kobie McKinzie, offensive lineman Isaiah Dent, tight end Kaden Helms, offensive lineman Jacob Sexton and running back Jovantae Barnes.
