Oklahoma has 4 prospects on commit watch that could soon explode the Sooners' 2028 class

The Oklahoma Sooners' chase for 2028 prospects had been quiet for months, but suddenly, it looks like things are about to get loud.

Rivals' two most prominent national recruiting experts, Sam Spiegelman and Steve Wiltfong, have been busy this week logging expert predictions in the Sooners' favor before they host a long list of targets at their game against New Mexico on Saturday night.

The Sooners' 2028 class got an early jump back in July, when four-star quarterback Trey Tagliaferri flipped from Notre Dame to be the first addition since running back Micah Rhodes had decommitted. But then, there was nothing until four-star tight end Connor Arant, from Oklahoma powerhouse Bixby High School, committed this week.

Arant might have been the first domino to fall and push the rest just before the Sooners can seal the deal on game-day visits this season, or even as soon as this weekend. These seem to be the next commitments on the way for the Sooners, with predictions from multiple recruiting experts.

4 OU targets on the verge of committing

Despite the Hoosiers' recent rise as defending national champions, the Sooners are still dragging four-star safety Drake Coellner out of Indiana. Rivals puts OU's chances of landing Coellner at 92%, compared to Indiana, with the next highest odds at 2%.

Coellner is the No. 24 safety in the 2028 class, per the 247Sports Composite.

The tough part for the Sooners, though, is that Michigan just hosted Coellner, as the Wolverines handled Oklahoma right in front of him. He's also already visited Indiana, so a decision should be coming soon, and hopefully that Michigan loss didn't influence any new feelings.

It feels like when will four-star wide receiver Dedrick Kimbrough pledge to the Sooners, not if. Rivals has it as a 96% chance that he becomes a Sooner, while 247Sports already has a Crystal Ball Prediction in with a 100% confidence rate.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Kimbrough, listed at 6-foot-3, is the No. 29 wide receiver in the class and would also continue OU's new Bama Sooners trend as the No. 10 player out of Alabama.

Kimbrough will be in Norman this weekend, so those predictions could come true soon.

This initially seemed like a recruiting battle that belonged to Clemson or Georgia. Instead, the Sooners are on the cusp of an impressive win for four-star linebacker Jay Schell, who's from Georgia and whose dad played at Clemson.

Schell revealed in August that the decision is between OU or Clemson, but both Rivals and 247Sports have him headed to Norman. He just visited Clemson last week, as the Tigers struggled with Georgia Southern, and will be inside Memorial Stadium on Saturday. However, Michigan has recently entered the mix, so hopefully that doesn't delay Schell's looming decision.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Schell, listed at 6-foot-3 and 214 pounds, is the No. 8 linebacker in the class and No. 142 overall prospect.

The fact that three-star wide receiver Kenyon Sweat isn't already part of the Sooners' 2028 class is somewhat a surprise. An Oklahoma kid from Cache High School, Sweat was waiting for that OU offer, so when it finally came in August, he was predicted by multiple recruiting experts within 24 hours to ultimately commit.

Sweat is undersized at 6-foot, but he's a speedy weapon who the 247Sports Composite ranks as the No. 54 receiver in the class after a recent surge that will see him continue to rise.
