Thirteen times in the past quarter century, one or both of the Oklahoma gymnastics programs have been crowned national champions. Six of those combined national championships since 2000, including three of the previous four, have been awarded to the OU women, but nine have been delivered by head coach Mark Williams and the Sooner men.

In addition to the nine national titles on Williams' watch, Oklahoma has 10 national runner-up finishes and 19 conference championships.

Much like their female Sooner counterparts, the OU men are off to an equivalent undefeated start and No. 1 national ranking in 2026. Oklahoma is 8-0 on the men's side, and among those eight wins are victories over the four schools that rank immediately behind the Sooners in the national rankings, including reigning national champion Michigan (No. 4) and No. 2 Stanford, the five-time defending champion from 2019-24. The national rankings are based on the average of a team's scores this season.

OU boasts not 1, but 2 No. 1-ranked gymnastics programs in 2026

Oklahoma's 12 national titles in men's gymnastics are the most by any OU sport and are tied with Penn State for the most all-time in the men's side of the collegiate sport. The Sooners have nine men's championships this century, but they also claimed three national titles in the previous century in 1978, 1979 and 1991.

Even though the Oklahoma men have remained among the best in the country in recent years (national runner-up in 2021 and 2022), their last national crown was in 2018, which capped off a championship run of four consecutive natties in 2016-19.

Nine SEC teams participate in women's gymnastics, but Oklahoma is the only SEC school with a men's program in the sport. As a result, the Sooner men compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, which includes four collegiate programs: Oklahoma, Stanford, Air Force and California.

In addition to their No. 1 team ranking this season, the Oklahoma men rank in the top 3 nationally in all six team routines. The Sooners are No. 1 on both pommel horse and high bar, No. 2 on floor exercise, parallel bars and vault, and third on still rings.

Three Sooner gymnasts also lead in the country in three different individual events. Sophomore Colby Aranda is the No. 1 on pommel horse, junior Tyler Flores is the top individual on vault and freshman Nathan Roman is the nation's best on the parallel bars.

Five current and future Oklahoma men's gymnasts participated last weekend in the USA Gymnastics Winter Cup, an annual competition for both men's and women's gymnasts held for the selection of the U.S. national team. Current Sooners Fuzzy Benas, Sasha Bogonosiuk and Roman particpated in this year's event, with Bogonosiuk earning the silver medal on vault.

The Sooners have a dual meet with Nebraska, and a couple of home-and-home weekend competitions with California over the next three weeks ahead of the MPSF Championships in Berkeley, California, on April 4.
