Nothing to see here, folks.

Out of nowhere, Brent Venables and Oklahoma were seemingly at risk of losing a four-star commit. That was the main worry for the fanbase when it was revealed that Keldrid Ben, who has been Norman-bound since December, is all set to make a new 'final' announcement. Where did this come from?

As you'll see in the graphic below, 247Sports featured Oklahoma, Florida, and Oregon, while adding that Ben 'has scheduled a celebration and announcement regarding his recruitment.' However, despite Florida and Oregon both pushing hard in recent months, Venables and his staff have gone all-in to make Ben realize he's a top priority for the '27 class. From our chair, this feels like a bit of a nothing burger. Here's why.

Keldrid Ben's surprise announcement should be nothing for Oklahoma fans to worry about

With Oregon, Dan Lanning was all set to host the 5-10, 210-pounder from Texas for an official visit in early June. That trip ended up being canceled. This was a major relief for the OU faithful at the time, as Lanning surely had a flip on his mind. We feel safe in ruling out Oregon here.

Then there's of course the Gators, where the situation is a bit different. Ben took his official visit to Gainesville in late May, meeting with Jon Sumrall and his new coaching staff. It was a loaded recruiting weekend for Florida, with 19 official visitors in town - of those 19, 13 are committed to play for Sumrall at the next level.

However, in a new piece for Hail Florida Hail, writer Benjamin Henderson stated that Florida has never really been 'close' to flipping the speedster at any point this cycle. Henderson added that the general feeling among the UF fanbase is that there isn't much optimism that a surprising decision from Ben is on the way.

So, if that's the case, then it feels like Oklahoma is going to get the update that Ben is 100 percent shutting down his recruitment, affirming his pledge to the Sooners. We won't know for sure until the announcement is made, but plenty of signs are pointing in that direction. Meaning the celebration aspect will surely be Ben joining in with his local community to honor such a big moment in his life.

Ben hails from Montgomery, Texas, which is a small town located roughly an hour outside of Houston. It's not often Montgomery produces big-time talent like this, which is why Ben's college recruitment has been made extra special for him and his family. With him being ranked the No. 7 RB in the country per the 247Sports Composite, it's no wonder Ben is such a popular person around his hometown.

Soon enough, everyone will find out exactly what Ben has on his mind, but again, it seems like Venables and his coaches have done more than enough to keep him on board. And once the 2027 season gets here, Ben will work overtime to see if he can make an immediate impact for Oklahoma as well.
