There's nothing worse than losing, except for losing to Texas.

The No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners lost to unranked Texas 23-6 on Saturday at Cotton Bowl Stadium in what was an overall disappointment by the Sooners as OU head coach Brent Venables dropped to 1-3 against the Longhorns with his team failing to score a touchdown in all three losses.

The day started with what seemed like a win when it was confirmed OU quarterback John Mateer would make a miraculous recovery from surgery on his throwing hand just 17 days before and play against Texas. Mateer then cruised the Sooners down for a field goal in the opening drive, but after that, it was just a day of sorrow for Sooner Nation.

Mateer had the worst performance of his career and threw three interceptions, leading many to question if he was even ready to return. OU's running game was still a flop. Starting right tackle Derek Simmons left the game in the first quarter with an injury as the offensive line gave up a season-high five sacks. Both Venables and offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle were just flat out out-coached.

It was a complete failure when the Sooners were set up for success. OU was the undefeated top-10 team exceeding expectations. Texas just made history as the fastest team in Associated Press Top 25 history to go from preseason No. 1 to unranked after dropping to 3-2 with a loss to Florida last week. Yet, it will once again be Sooner Nation with no bragging rights and feeling miserable until the next second Saturday of October.

OU fans had a mutual disappointment that was shared on social media, including OU legend Gerald McCoy.
