Oklahoma fans are mixed on alternate uniforms, but the results speak for themselves

Oklahoma will be wearing its military appreciation uniforms this Saturday against Missouri. The uniforms have always garnered at least a mixed reaction from fans. It's not unexpected — there's always going to be a group of fans that are traditionalists and will find a reason to be critical of any adjustments to the Crimson and Cream.

But if we're looking at this objectively, the Sooners have yet to lose wearing these uniforms, going 3-0 since they debuted in 2022.

What do the alternate uniforms look like?

Oklahoma's military appreciation uniforms are described as anthracite grey (similar to charcoal) helmets, jerseys and pants with glossy crimson numbers with a white outline that makes them a little easier to see. The player names on the backs of the jerseys have been replaced by the word 'UNITY'.

Overall, it seems like a nice way to honor the military and the look is pretty smooth even though the OU on the helmets can be difficult to see. The Sooners would usually wear these uniforms on the Saturday before or after Veterans Day, but Oklahoma hasn't played a game in Norman in nearly a month, so this week against Missouri was the first opportunity.

The Sooners have had plenty of success in these uniforms, but it's been against relatively overmatched competition. Missouri is a different beast. The Tigers are 22nd in the recently released College Football Playoff rankings and would love nothing more than to spoil Oklahoma's plans to be in the 12-team bracket.

Everyone's got an opinion on these uniforms

It's hard to argue with the success that the Sooners have had in these dark alternate digs, but that doesn't mean that it's going to be universally accepted by the Oklahoma fans. Some fans are just upset that the players' names aren't on the backs of the jerseys and other fans aren't necessarily against alternate uniforms, but would prefer the 'Rough Riders' uniforms that were retired a couple of years ago.

And even others will buy into the superstition as long as the Sooners keep winning. There will always be detractors, especially when Oklahoma is on the verge of making the playoffs. Why mess with a good thing, right? But at the end of the day, results matter and if the result of Saturday's game is another Sooners victory, everyone will be happy.
