And then there was one.

CBS Sports and 247Sports reported Thursday that receiver Brenen Thompson is planning to transfer from Oklahoma. Thompson would become the sixth OU receiver to enter the transfer portal since it officially opened on Monday.

Thompson started his career at Texas before spending the last two seasons with the Sooners. He missed most of 2023 because of injury. This season he had 19 receptions, 230 yards and a pair of TDs.

The 5-foot-9 speedy receiver will have one year of elibility left for wherever he ends up next.

Thompson is the sixth receiver expected to transfer from OU, joining Andrel Anthony, Jaquaize Pettaway, Nic Anderson, Jalil Farooq and J.J. Hester.

Anthony, Anderson and Farooq all played in less than four games this season because of injuries as the Sooners were down their top five wide receivers most of this season.

OU is also losing tight end Bauer Sharp, who led OU in receiving yards this season with 324.

Purdue transfer Deion Burks was the leading pass catcher among wide receivers, and even Burks played only five games this season because of two different injuries. As of now, Burks would be OU's only scholarship receiver that's not a freshman who will be available for the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 27.

However, there's still no guarantee Burks sticks around. After being the leading receiver at Purdue and shining in the few chances he got with OU this season, Burks, a junior, could enter the NFL Draft and not play in the bowl game. OU coach Brent Venables mentioned earlier in the season that Burks going on to the NFL was a real possibility.

The only other scholarship receiver on OU's roster who's not a freshman is Jayden Gibson, but Gibson missed this entire season because of an injury suffered during fall camp.

Major Melson, a redshirt senior, is also on OU's roster but is a walk-on. He's never caught a pass in five years with the Sooners.

The Sooners had to rely heavily on freshmen at receiver this season and will have to do so even more against Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl. Zion Kearney, Zion Ragins, Ivan Carreon and Jacob Jordan, a walk-on, all got significant playing time as true freshmen.
