Oklahoma's athletic reputation on the national collegiate sports stage will always revolve around football, and deservedly so, but what makes it so exciting and proud to be a Sooner fan is how nationally prominent OU is across multiple sports the span of the entire academic year, and the most recent athletic year is a clear example.
Oklahoma captured two national championships in 2025-26. In April, the Sooner women's gymnastics program won its eighth national crown, and last month, the OU baseball team surprised the entire collegiate sports world with a dramatic championship run to earn its third national title.

By winning two national championships in the same academic year, Oklahoma earned a select standing among NCAA Division I schools. The Sooners are one of 10 Division I schools and four out of the SEC to win two or more national titles in 2025-26. A total of 38 national team titles were awarded in 38 Division I collegiate sports this past academic year.
Oklahoma's two national championships in 2025-26 gives the Sooners a total of 47 all-time. That number is tied with Georgia for fifth place among SEC schools, which won 12 of 38 national championships awarded during the 2025-26 cycle. Texas leads all SEC programs with a total of 72 national championships to its credit. Arkansas is next with 55, followed by LSU (53) and Florida (49).
Sooners have won at least one national title in 13 consecutive years
Sooner athletic programs have won at least one national championship in each of the last 13 seasons and a total of 21 during that span.
Oklahoma captured three NCAA championships in a period of 53 days in 2016. The Sooners won national titles in both men's and women's gymnastics that year and followed it up by winning the Women's College World Series in softball less than two months later.
It marked the first time Oklahoma had won three national championships in the same semester. That 2016 record was short lived, however, as the Sooners claimed four team national titles in 52 days the following year: women's gymnastics on April 15, men's gymnastics on April 22, men's golf on May 31 and softball on June 6.
Sixteen of 19 Oklahoma athletic programs (nine of the men's side and seven women's teams) participated in NCAA postseason competition this past year, with men's gymnastics finishing the year as NCAA national runner-up and three other OU programs (men's tennis, women's softball and women's tennis) advancing to the Super Regionals.
