Oklahoma football general manager Jim Nagy shouldn't be leaving Norman anytime soon. The Sooners are making sure of that.

SoonerScoop's George Stoia reported on Tuesday evening that the OU Board of Regents approved a new four-year, $4.6 million deal through 2030 for Nagy, who was just hired in Feb. 2025. According to Stoia, Nagy will make $1 million this year, and just like his initial contract, Nagy will get a $100,000 bump in his salary every year. He was set to make $850,000 this year before the new deal put him at the $1 million mark. His previous three-year contract was worth $2.55 million.

And Nagy is worth every penny.

New Jim Nagy contract details revealed

Even those outside of Sooner Nation across college football believed Nagy was a home-run hire when OU landed him last February. His initial job description included leading roster building, player evaluation, recruiting, and compensation for OU's football program while working alongside head coach Brent Venables. He also manages the impact of rules governing NIL, the transfer portal process, revenue-share allocation, scholarship limits and eligibility requirements.

He had been Executive Director of the Senior Bowl since 2018, in charge of finding the best seniors in the country with NFL potential. Before that, Nagy spent 18 years inside NFL front offices, including scouting roles with the Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots and the Washington Redskins.

Nagy immediately took that front office experience and built his own from the ground up in Oklahoma. College football is basically like a pro sport today between NIL and contract negotiations and the transfer portal acting as free agency, which is where Nagy's previous experience has proven valuable. He needed the resources to hire additional front-office personnel for the Sooners, but the investment paid off almost immediately.

Nagy was too late to have a full impact on the 2026 recruiting class, but the 2027 group, which is his first in full control, is currently No. 3 in the country in 247Sports' team rankings with 25 total commits. It would be the Sooners' first top-5 class since 247Sports started releasing team rankings in 2010.

How the Sooners have assembled such a historic class is even more impressive and even more telling of how valuable Nagy and his scouting ability is.

The group is loaded with commits who were unknown prospects when OU offered early but eventually broke out as top targets. That includes running back Keldrid Ben, who committed as an unrated and unranked recruit. Now, according to the 247Sports Composite, he's the No. 6 running back in the class as a four-star prospect. That early belief from OU is a key reason why commits like Ben stay loyal to the Sooners even after a new flood of offers.

That ability to discover talent before anyone else has led to the Sooners to having one of the best 2027 classes, and the 2028 class is headed in the same direction with some more early offers. And talent is ultimately what leads to winning football games.

Nagy is paid to get Venables the talent he needs on the field, and so far, he's been priceless.
