Oklahoma women's gymnastics' victory total over top-10 competition this season grew by one more on Friday with the Sooners defeating 10th-ranked Alabama in OU's first true road test of the season.
The top-ranked Sooners did not have their best outing of the season, but they were still able to win three of the four team events, as well as the all-around in defeating a highly energized Alabama squad 197.550-196.300 at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa.
Oklahoma captured team wins on the uneven bars, and vault and beam.
The Sooners took home individual titles with senior Jordan Bowers posting high score on bars and tying for high score in floor exercise, and teammate Faith Torrez finished with high honors in vault and beam and a matching high score on floor with Bowers and Gabby Gladieux of Alabama.
Bowers and Torrez also finished one-two in the all-around competition with scores of 39.625 and 39.600, respectively. It was Bowers' second all-around title of the season.
Oklahoma recorded 10 scores of 9.9 or better in Friday's meet, including five alone on the balance beam, the Sooners' final rotation of the evening, to cap off the victory. By comparison, Alabama did not have a single routine earn a score of 9.9 or better until the final event.
"It took a lot of focus, this is an incredible environment to be in," said OU's Bowers in an interview with the SEC Network afterward. "Alabama brought their A-game. They always do."
This was OU's fourth win this season over a team ranked in the top 10. It was also the team's second consecutive victory in dual competition against an SEC opponent.
The Sooners continue with SEC dual competition, hosting No. 17 Arkansas on Friday at Lloyd Noble Center. The meet is scheduled for a 7:45 p.m. start and will be televised on ESPN2.
