Get ready for the flood of "Way-Too-Early" top-25 rankings that will begin coming out ahead of the 2025 college football season after Monday night's national championship game.
On3, which covers college and high school sports, was among the first to come out with its projection of the top 25 college football teams in advance of the 2025 season.
"Every college team outside of Ohio State and Notre Dame have turned the page to 2025," wrote Andy Staples, who covers college football for On3. "So it's time to start arguing about next season. Staples and On3 colleague Ari Wasserman have come with their own top-25 projections for 2025 and averaged them together to produce one unified top-25 ranking."
Ten SEC teams (out of 16 possible) are included in On3's Way-Too-Early top-25 projection, headed by No. 1 Texas. That is the most of any conference. The Big Ten is represented by seven teams among the top 25.
One of the ten SEC teams projected to begin the 2025 college football season as one of the top-25 teams are the Oklahoma Sooners. Despite a disappointing 6-7 overall record in the Sooners' inaugural year as a member of the SEC, Oklahoma is ranked No. 18 by On3.
"There is no team that had more bad luck with injuries than Oklahoma in 2024, which unquestionably contributed to the Sooners' down season," Wasserman wrote in the text accompanying OU's No. 18 ranking.
"Oklahoma brought in new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle and star transfer quarterback John Mateer from Washington State," Wasserman added. "The Sooners' offensive line should be improved next year, and the quarterback will be a star."
The 10 SEC teams included in On3's early top-25 projection were: 1) Texas, 6) Georgia, 8) South Carolina, 9) Florida, 11) Auburn, 13) Tennessee, 14) Alabama, 15) LSU, 18) Oklahoma and 19) Texas A&M.
