Junior Raegan Beers has played just two games in an Oklahoma uniform and she is already drawing rave national attention to herself and the Sooner women's program.
On Tuesday, the Oregon State transfer received both national and SEC weekly honors for her stellar performance in a pair wins by the 10th-ranked Oklahoma women last week.
Beers was named Associated Press National Player of the Week as well as the SEC Player of the Week. She also was named to the U.S. Basketball Women's Writers Association National Starting Five of the Week.
A preseason All-America candidate, Beers scored 21 and 44 points in Oklahoma season-opening wins last week over Southern and Virginia, respectively. She also had 28 rebounds combined in the two games. She also became the first Sooner women's player since Courtney Paris to post consecutive 20-point, 14-rebound games. In her 44-point performance against Virginia, Beers eclipsed 1,000 career points.
Entering the second week of the college basketball season, Beers is the only SEC player ranked in the top five in the conference in both points and rebounds per game.
Beers, who hails from Littleton, Colorado, played her freshman and sophomore seasons at Oregon State, where she averaged 23.5 points and 14.4 rebounds per game in 62 games.
Also announced on Tuesday, Beers was one of 15 players nationally named to the watch list for the Wade Trophy, the highest honor in women's college basketball.
With the two wins last week, Oklahoma moved up one spot, from No. 10 to No. 9, in the AP Top-25 poll. The Lady Sooners will be at home again at Lloyd Noble Center on Wednesday to host Western Carolina.
