John Mateer was in the house for last night's UFC Fight Night event in Oklahoma City and the Sooners quarterback had a special message for the crowd and all the haters that are down in Texas.

When the camera panned on Mateer, he did what any good OU representative does and flashed the horns down because if it's a day that ends in 'y', it's a perfect time to hate Texas.

John Mateer flashes the "horns down" at UFC in Oklahoma City

Any time a OU player or anything OU related is on TV, it's going to trigger Texas fans. That's just how they are. It's a sensitive bunch of people that can't handle how much more successful Sooners football has been and have almost twice as many national championships.

So, of course, these triggered Longhorn fans have to hate on Mateer because he made a couple of bad passes in the playoffs last year. Let me remind those fans that Mateer was IN THE PLAYOFFS while Texas was out there playing in one of those consolation bowl games. Congratulations to the Longhorns on that Citrus Bowl win. Are you going to put up a banner? If there's anything the Manning family does well, it's win Citrus Bowls.

Mateer put the horns down because he's a real one. Get over it Texas fans. It's a rivalry. OU will always hate Texas and that secondary brand of football y'all play down in Austin.

John Mateer has to back up his actions on October 10

Hey, it's all good that Mateer takes every opportunity available to hate Texas. OU fans should expect nothing else. But the results against the Longhorns last season were disappointing. He came into the game compromised by a broken hand. Sooners fans appreciated his desire to return and help the team, but he wasn't ready to go, and it showed on the field. This year Mateer should be healthy and, if that's the case, he's got to perform in Dallas.

What Mateer does in Dallas is inevitably going to be what his time at OU will be remembered for. Texas has gotten the best of OU in the past two seasons and, if we're being perfectly honest, it wasn't pretty. Everyone associated with OU needs a win over Texas this season. That includes coach Brent Venables, who knows how important this game can be for his reputation.

There will be no excuses in the Cotton Bowl this year, Mateer has to get it done.
