That's John Mateer, Oklahoma quarterback and Heisman Trophy favorite.

After two games as the Sooners' starting quarterback since transferring from Washington State this offseason, Mateer has quickly risen as the top Heisman Trophy candidate according to nearly every betting platform in Vegas.

Odds have John Mateer among Heisman frontrunners with LSU's Garrett Nussmeier

Heading into Week 3, FanDuel and DraftKings both already have Mateer with the best odds to win the Heisman Trophy at the end of this season. FanDuel has Mateer's odds at +900, while DraftKings set it at +850.

Mateer skyrocketed in the Heisman race after his OU debut Week 1, but after Week 2, he leads the pack after eclipsing LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. Miami quarterback Carson Beck is also among the top three Heisman candidates.

According to BetMGM's latest odds heading into Week 3, Mateer and Nussmeier are tied for the best odds to win the Heisman this season at +900. Nussmeier is behind Mateer in DraftKings' odds, while FanDuel has Beck with the second-best odds.

While many doubted if Mateer could still produce with a tougher schedule than he had at Washington State, Mateer put on a show against one of the best defenses in the country during the Sooners' 24-13 win over then-No. 15 Michigan on Saturday night in primetime.

Mateer tallied 344 total yards utilizing his arm and legs. He led the Sooners in rushing with 74 yards on 19 carries and two scores. He also threw for 270 yards and a touchdown on 21-of-34 passing. The performance garnered him SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

He also had what we could look back on as a Heisman moment when he gave Sooner Nation flashbacks to Baker Mayfield when he escaped pressure and made an incredible throw down field.

Heading into Week 3, Mateer is second in the country in total yards while averaging 380 a game. He also leads the SEC with 662 passing yards. The Sooners play Temple at 11 a.m. CT Saturday, which should be an opportunity for Mateer to really inflate his numbers.
