Who else deserved to be on the list?

On3 recently released its ranking of the top 100 college football players for 2026, and although four Oklahoma Sooners were rightfully included, OU fans and even general manager Jim Nagy immediately noticed there were some obvious omissions from a program that just made the College Football Playoff.

Making the cut in the top 100 were defensive tackle David Stone at No. 20, linebacker Kip Lewis at No. 52, defensive end Taylor Wein at No. 75 and wide receiver Isaiah Sategna III at No. 78. All worthy of the praise, but as Nagy pointed out with a post on X, a true playoff contender like the Sooners have a lot more elite talent on their roster than just that.

On3 ranks top 100 college football players with some obvious Sooners missing

First off, props to On3 for not overlooking Wein. He's recently been coming out of the shadows, but for the most part has still been underrated after a breakout 2025, during which he led the Sooners with seven sacks. ESPN last month mentioned Wein as the most "under-the-radar player" on OU's roster. On3 took that even a step further placing Wein among the top 100 players in the country.

Stone and Sategna were obvious inclusions. Stone is already getting attention as a first-round 2027 NFL Draft prospect and is expected to have his biggest role yet as a junior in 2026. Sategna was the Sooners' leading receiver last season before choosing to return for his senior campaign instead of taking his electric speed to the NFL. Lewis also opted to return to Oklahoma instead of enter the NFL Draft early.

But if Stone was an obvious top-20 player, then there should have been no doubt fellow defensive tackle Jayden Jackson belonged somewhere in the top 100, if not right there with Stone. Both got to Norman in 2024 and immediately made an impact as freshmen, with Jackson starting 10 games.

That OU defense is stacked with talent, though, with the likes of linebacker Owen Heinecke, safety Peyton Bowen, and cornerbacks Courtland Guillory and Eli Bowen all having a strong case to be considered a top-100 player.

Offensively, no matter the argument against quarterback John Mateer, he'll still likely be a Heisman Trophy candidate like he was early last season, so any player worthy to be considered the best player in college football should definitely be in the top 100. There's no way guys like South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers (22), USC's Jayden Maiava (31), Miami's Darian Mensah (44) and Indiana's Josh Hoover (89) should be considered higher on the ladder than Mateer, who's now healthy and has more talent than ever around him.

OU's offensive line that returns four of five starters is also loaded with talent like Michael Fasusi, Ryan Fodje and Jake Maikkula that should be among the best. Even David Pollack this offseason raved about the talent along the Sooners' offensive line.

The Sooners also have the best kicker in the country back with 2025 Lou Groza Award winner Tate Sandell.

Regardless, whether national media like On3 notices it or not, the Sooners' roster is absolutely stacked with talent and Nagy knows there's enough there for another run to the College Football Playoff.
