With so much speculation about former Oklahoma wide receiver Jayden Gibson all over social media, he went straight to the source to put everyone in their place.
Gibson just committed to SEC foe South Carolina out of the Transfer Portal, but it had been known since October that Gibson was headed to the portal once it officially opened. OU head coach Brent Venables confirmed during the season that Gibson was no longer with the program, and that news stirred rumors among fans on social media that trouble off the field led to Gibson being forced to leave OU. Venables never revealed any details about Gibson's departure.
On Monday, though, Gibson finally addressed those specific rumors and made it clear why he ultimately transferred.
Jayden Gibson committed to South Carolina after leaving the Sooners
"the ONLY reason OU and I parted ways was because of my injuries. anything else being spread is false information from people who don’t know any details , just what they see on there phones," Gibson wrote in his post on X.

Gibson hadn't even touched the field since 2023 for the Sooners because of injuries. He had 14 catches for 375 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore and was primed for a breakout season in 2024. However, before things even got started, Gibson suffered a season-ending knee injury during fall camp. More injury setbacks kept Gibson sidelined for the start of 2025 before he ultimately left the team and prepared to transfer.
Despite being away for so long, Gibson was still an attractive option in the portal while being listed at 6-foot-5 and as a former consensus four-star recruit out of high school in 2022. Former OU offensive coordinator Shane Beamer, who's now the head coach at South Carolina, ultimately landed Gibson.
The Sooners will host the Gamecocks on Oct. 31, when Gibson is hopefully finally healthy again for his return.
