The potential of freshman wide receiver Jahsiear Rogers in an Oklahoma uniform will never be realized.

Multiple outlets confirmed through an OU spokesperson on Thursday that Rogers has been dismissed from the football program. No one was given a reason for the dismissal.

Rogers has also already been removed from OU’s online roster.

Loss of Jahsiear Rogers will hurt more in future than now

The news comes just two days before the Sooners take on No. 1 Texas in the Red River Rivalry on Saturday, but Rogers’ absence won’t be noticed at all on the field. There was a lot of potential for the future, though, as OU’s trend continues of losing talented receivers before they ever contribute to the Sooners.

The Sooners managed to flip Rogers from Penn State just two months before last year’s early signing period. He had been committed to the Nittany Lions since July 2024, but he started entertaining other options after Penn State fired head coach James Franklin.

After it was known Rogers was looking to move on, he added offers from OU, Alabama, Nebraska, and Wake Forest. Norman was his first visit, and he committed after the trip. He stayed locked in even after visits to Alabama and Nebraska.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Rogers was the No. 50 wide receiver in the 2026 class as a four-star recruit. He was the best player coming out of Delaware.

He’s a bit undersized at 5-foot-11, but Rogers is speedy and versatile enough to be dangerous when on the field. There was buzz out of spring and fall camp that the Sooners were going to take full advantage of Rogers’ abilities.

Reporters at OU’s practices were impressed with what they saw from Rogers. There were also reports that he lined up in the backfield some and also practiced returning kicks.

The hype around Rogers back then really exploded when he caught five passes for 70 yards in OU’s spring game. Both stats were game-highs.

Signs pointed to Rogers being one of the few freshmen to really make an impact for the Sooners in 2026, but he hadn’t even seen the field since OU’s season opener against UTEP. He logged just six snaps in that game.

Had Rogers met preseason expectations, he might even be the receiver the Sooners have been looking for to step up to replace Trell Harris.

The next time head coach Brent Venables speaks to the media will be at a press conference after the Red River Rivalry, so we likely won’t get an answer then about why Rogers was really dismissed, if ever.
