The conference basketball showdown between Oklahoma and LSU on Saturday isn't the only big event going on this weekend involving these two schools. On Friday night, the country's top two women's gymnastics programs battle for the top spot as top-ranked Oklahoma takes on the reigning national champion and No. 2 LSU Tigers.
The much anticipated head-to-head matchup between these two national powerhouses in women's gymnastics will take place Friday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The showdown between Nos. 1 and 2 will be televised on ESPN2 beginning at 8 p.m. CT. John Roethlisberger, Aly Raisman and Taylor Davis will be on the call.
The Tigers and Sooners represent the last two national championship programs. Last season was LSU's first in women's gymnastics. The Sooners have six national titles to their credit and have won three of the last six, including back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023.
Oklahoma is undefeated at 10-0 this season, including victories over seven teams currently ranked in the top 25. LSU moved into the top two position in the national rankings with a win over No. 10 Alabama last weekend. The Tigers are 6-2 overall in 2025 competition and 3-1 in SEC competition.
Friday night's competition will be the 35th time OU and LSU have faced each other in women's gymnastics. The Sooners hold a 24-10 advantage, including 11 straight victories dating back to 2016.
Oklahoma and LSU met earlier this season in the Sprouts Farmer's Market Collegiate Quad with the Sooners coming out on top 197.950-197.650.
That was a four-team competition with OU, California, Utah and LSU held in January in Oklahoma City. This time, the Sooners and Tigers will meet on the LSU campus.
The Sooners have proved as tough to beat away from Lloyd Noble Center as they are on their home mats. Since 2015, the OU women own a 231-13 record away from home. This includes a 60-5 record at true away competition sites and a 171-8 mark at neutral sites.
Oklahoma will follow up its competition against No. 2 LSU with a dual meet against No. 3 Florida next Friday in Norman.
