The Oklahoma Sooners will host the first round of the Red River Rivalry against Texas late Wednesday night as both teams are still searching for their first-ever SEC win.

How to watch

Who: Texas Longhorns (11-5, 0-3) vs. Oklahoma Sooners (13-3, 0-3)
When: 9 p.m. CT Wednesday
Where: Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma
Watch: SEC Network

Need to know

No, that's not eastern time. Considering college basketball games never start on time, things won't tip off until after 9 p.m. in Norman. Not even OU coach Porter Moser was happy about having to stay up this late.

No matter the time, though, the Sooners have some streaks to end Wednesday night. Both teams are on three-game losing streaks while starting SEC play 0-3.

This is also both programs' first seasons in the conference, so either the Sooners or Longhorns will make history Wednesday night with the first SEC win in school history in men's basketball. The Texas women already got their first-ever SEC win over the Sooners also inside Lloyd Noble Center.

Sooner Nation is hoping this isn't deja vu of another Porter Moser-led season where the Sooners start hot and fizzle so much they don't even get into the NCAA Tournament. But Moser also has another monkey to get off his back.

The Sooners have lost seven in a row to Texas. OU hasn't beaten the Longhorns since an 80-79 win during the 2020-21 season, when Moser was still coaching at Loyola Chicago. That means Moser has never beaten OU's biggest rival.

But this game goes even deeper than just bragging rights and conference records. The Sooners are projected to still just barely get into the NCAA Tournament come March, while Texas is on the outside looking in. If the Longhorns beat OU, they could steal their spot at the dance. It would also be OU's worst loss of the season so far and only one that wasn't a Quadrant 1 loss.
