Need to know

The Sooners barely snuck into bowl season at 6-6 after upsetting Alabama in Norman. That win kept the second-longest active bowl streak in the country alive, though, at 26.

But this is not the same team that took down Alabama just over a month ago. The transfer portal has snatched 25 players from OU's roster, and although most weren't major contributors, OU will still be missing some starters on Friday, including quarterback Jackson Arnold, who transferred to Auburn.

Linebacker Danny Stutsman and safety Billy Bowman Jr. also won't be playing as they prepare for the NFL Draft.

There's even been coaching changes since the regular season ended. Brent Venables hired Ben Arbuckle from Washington State as OU's new offensive coordinator.

Arbuckle will also serve as quarterbacks coach, which prompted Kevin Johns to leave for Oklahoma State to coach the Cowboys' quarterbacks. That move prompted Arbuckle to start coaching OU's quarterbacks for the bowl game while Joe Jon Finley will still be calling plays.

Meanwhile, it's like 2016 college football for Navy with no transfer portal departures or future pros sitting out. The Midshipmen, coming off a 9-3 season and victory over rival Army, are going to be at virtually full strength for the Armed Forces Bowl.
