At the halfway mark of the 2024 Oklahoma football regular season, the Sooners have yet to play a game in the 11 a.m. time window, something they did with unusual frequency in recent seasons as a member of the Big 12.
Oklahoma (4-2, 1-2) will have its first late-morning kickoff this season on Saturday (11:45 on the SEC Network) when the Sooners host South Carolina (3-3, 1-3). The Gamecocks, coached by former OU assistant Shane Beamer come to Norman after narrowly missing an upset bid on the road at Alabama. The Crimson Tide, which will play at Oklahoma on Nov. 23, survived a two-point conversion attempt by South Carolina to escape with a 27-25 victory last weekend.
The week following the South Carolina game, Oklahoma will take to the road and head to Oxford, Mississippi, to face 18th-ranked Ole Miss, That game will kickoff at 11 a.m. and be televised on either ABC or ESPN.
The Oct. 26 game at Ole Miss, will be Oklahoma's first visit to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, which holds 65,000 fans, and just the second-ever meeting between the Sooners and the Rebels, The two teams faced each other in the Independence Bowl (Shreveport, Louisiana) in December 1999, in Bob Stoops first season as head coach of the Sooners and Brent Venables' first as co-defensive coordinator. The Rebels won that game 27-25.
At this time, it appears that Oklahoma's remaining four games in the regular season (Maine, at Missouri, Alabama and at LSU) will all be mid- or late-afternoon games with kickoff at 2:30 or 5 p.m.
