After lengthy discussion and planning behind closed doors, Oklahoma fans finally got a glimpse of the future for Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, which turned 100 years old last year.
Last week, University of Oklahoma Board of Regents voted to approve renovations for the west side of OU's football stadium, and on Friday, those plans were finally released for everyone to see.

OU released more detailed plans and renderings for the next step of what OU calls "The Palace Project," which the press release deemed, "the most critical construction initiative in the history of OU football."

The next set of renovations are scheduled to start after the 2027 football season and are expected to be completed by the start of the 2029 season. Although it will eventually be worth it, that means part of the stadium will still likely be a construction zone during the 2028 campaign. Fans should brace themselves for jokes from other fan bases during that time.
New renovations to the west side include new gates, concourses, elevators, concessions, seating, fan areas, expanded bathrooms and more. There will also be a new press box that will expand across the entire west side, as well as 47 suites and 64 loge boxes.
A downfall, especially for the average fan, is the reduction of 7,000 seats.

An underrated addition to the stadium will be an upgraded sports lighting system and sound system to take the game day atmosphere, especially at night, to a new level.
