The Sooners finally know where they'll be for bowl season.

Brett McMurphy of Action Network reported Sunday that Oklahoma will play Navy in the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 27 in Fort Worth, Texas.

OU later confirmed the report.

This will be the 26th year in a row the Sooners will participate in bowl season. It's the second-longest active bowl streak in the country behind only Georgia.

The Sooners barely reached bowl eligibility this season at 6-6 after upsetting then-No. 7 Alabama just two weeks ago. OU then lost its regular-season finale to LSU last week.

Navy, meanwhile, is 8-3 and still has a game left to play as part of its regular season. The Midshipmen will host Army at 3 p.m. Saturday, giving OU and its fans a chance to check out their bowl opponent.

This will be only the second time OU has played Navy on the gridiron. The last time was 1965, when the Sooners lost 10-0 in Norman.

A 6-6 season had a lot of disappointing bowl options, but this might be the best destination for the Sooners. It's just down the road in Fort Worth at TCU's Amon G. Carter Stadium, making it an easy trip for Sooner fans. None of the other destinations were worth traveling any further for.

The game will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 27. That make for a solid weekend trip after Christmas. Also a reason to check out early at work if you're forced to go back for only a few days after the holiday.

Navy is also an interesting matchup. There's no history between the two programs, but most are still enticed by a service academy.
