The Oklahoma Sooners just a few weeks ago lost a 2027 running back commit, but new running backs coach Deland McCullough is making sure that void is not open long as he also shows off to fans how dangerous he can be on the recruiting trail.
On April 26, three-star Jaxsen Stokes flipped from OU to in-state Cal, but just less than three weeks later, McCullough has not only acquired new targets of his own, but one even already has the Sooners at the top of his list almost instantly after getting an offer.
Three-star 2027 running back Jakoby Dixon on Thursday announced an offer from OU and posted on X a picture with McCullough, who visited him and watched his spring game to hand deliver the offer. Less than 24 hours after the brief visit, Rivals' Sam Spiegelman already reported that the Sooners had emerged as Dixon's top option.

“Oklahoma is definitely No. 1 to me," Lewis told Spiegelman.

The Sooners instantly rose to the top of an offers list for Dixon that also includes Arizona State, Baylor, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Oregon, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and more.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Dixon is the No. 51 running back in the 2027 class but is on the rise. He's also the No. 100 overall player in the state of Texas out of Brenham High School. He spent his junior season in 2025 at The John Cooper School, though, before returning to Brenham this year.
A quiet 2025 season likely held up Dixon's recruitment from exploding, but in 2024 as a sophomore for Brenham, he rushed for an outstanding 2,248 yards and 32 touchdowns while also catching two receiving TDs. It was the fourth-most rushing yards in a season in Brenham history as he was named District 10-5A-II Overall MVP. He was also the district's Offensive MVP as a freshman in 2023 after totalling 1,181 rushing yards and 14 scores.

Dixon was the second running back the Sooners have offered since Stokes' abrupt commitment. Three-star TJ Lewis announced an OU offer just four days after Stokes flipped. Those were also the first offers McCullough handed out since replacing DeMarco Murray as running backs coach in February.
Whoever McCullough surely lands will join four-star Keldrid Ben, who recently reassured his commitment to OU while visiting other schools.
