They say greatness recognizes greatness, and Oklahoma legend Brian Bosworth has taken notice of OU commit Cooper Witten, who also plays linebacker as The Boz did.
Witten, the son of Oklahoma tight ends coach and future Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Witten, put on a show on Friday night while nearing the end of his senior season at Liberty Christian School in Argyle, Texas, before he follows his dad to Norman on the same route.
Playing on both sides of the ball, Witten totaled 20 tackles, recovered a fumble, and blocked a field goal defensively, while also posting 104 receiving yards and two touchdowns on offense. Although he plays both ways now, he will play linebacker in Brent Venables' defense once he gets to OU. Maybe there's a chance he could play for his dad, too, considering it's definitely in his DNA.

There has been a lot of hype surrounding Witten for years as a five-star recruit in the 2027 class. Some might argue he is only getting that status because he is the son of an NFL legend who was also his head coach before this season. That being said, if you do not trust scouts and the media, then you should take the word of one of the greatest linebackers in college football history.
Bosworth, twice during OU career, won the Butkus Award, which is given to the best linebacker in college football. He was also a two-time unanimous All-American.
"This dude is a ball hawk. Speed, violent, can see fast and react faster," Bosworth replied to a post on X about Witten.

Cooper Witten's hype keeps growing before joining his dad, Jason Witten, at Oklahoma
According to the 247Sports Composite, Witten, listed at 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, is the No. 3 athlete in the 2027 class and No. 33 overall player. He is also the No. 3 prospect in the state of Texas.
Witten had announced a final group of 10 that included Texas, Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas Tech, Georgia, Alabama, Texas A&M, and his father's alma mater, Tennessee, before ultimately pledging to OU in March.
The Sooners were one of the first programs to go after Witten, even long before there were plans to hire his dad to replace Joe Jon Finley as their tight ends coach. OU was in Witten's top 10 in November before his dad joined the Sooners' staff the following January.
Once Jason Witten was hired, though, the writing was on the wall, and immediately had OU fans anticipating his five-star son to soon follow.
Jason has completely revamped the Sooners' tight end group, and his position has emerged as maybe the only bright spot on OU's dormant offense right now. There was a lot of hype about what he could bring to Oklahoma because of his vast experience and legendary status as a former player, and there's no doubt that Jason has met, or even exceeded, every expectation in Year 1.
Now, it seems like the next Witten to get to Oklahoma could also live up to all the hype that preceeds him.
