Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners' defense gave the Michigan Wolverines' offense and their freshman quarterback absolute fits during the first half of the highly anticipated top-20 matchup between two blue bloods.
The Sooners went to the locker room pitching a 14-0 shutout at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium as Venables, the head coach who calls the defense, completely stifled the Wolverines for two quarters. The Wolverines' lack of production on the field was so frustrating that, since they couldn't go after Venables, they went after each other on the sideline.
Bryce Underwood argues with teammates while struggling vs. Oklahoma
The closest Michigan got to getting points on the board was its final possession of the first half. The Wolverines got all the way down to OU's 14-yard line before abruptly stopping. On third-and-2, freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood failed to complete a pass to Donaven McCulley, forcing Michigan to settle for a field-goal attempt.
As the offense went off the field and the field goal unit jogged on, Underwood and running back Justice Haynes were seen getting into a heated discussion on Michigan's sideline. And as the two offensive leaders got into it, Michigan missed the easy field goal to keep the goose egg.

This was only Underwood's second career start and first-ever road game. He impressed in the season opener against New Mexico, but nothing went right in the first half. Underwood went to the locker room with just 76 yards on 5-of-10 passing. Haynes had a whopping 12 carries, but for only 36 yards.
