Five Oklahoma players scored in double figures, led by 22 points by returning forward Jalon Moore, and the Sooner men rolled to a 93-60 victory over Lindenwood in their 2024-25 season opener on Monday night.

The 10th-ranked Sooner women also opened their college basketball season and first game as a member of the SEC on Monday, scoring 50 of their 76 total points in the paint in a decisive 76-44 win over Southern University.

The OU men trailed for a total of 25 seconds and shot 52 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range in logging the win. Sixty of the Sooners' 93 points were scored by newcomers to the roster and 29 points from players coming off the bench. Both are very good signs for Porter Moser's troops as they begin the new season with 11 newcomers to the roster.

True Freshman top-50 recruit Jeremiah Fears was OU's second leading scorer with 16 points and six assists. Former High Point (North Carolina) guard Duke Miles started the game and scored 14 points in the Sooners' home opener, including four of six from long range.

A transfer player also was the lead contributor in the Lady Sooners' rout of Southern, Raegan Beers scored a game and team-high 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Oklahoma dominated the paint area, scoring 52 of its 76 points in close to the basket. Beers, a third-team Associated Press All-America last season playing for Oregon State, made 8 of 11 field goals.

Sophomore Sahara Williams contributed 19 points, and returning starter Skylar Vann added 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Sooners scored the first 10 points in the game with Southern and held the Lady Jaguars scoreless for the first five minutes of the game.

The Oklahoma men do not return to action until next Monday, when they will host Northwestern State out of Louisiana. The Sooner women will be in action on Friday, when they will take on Virginia at Lloyd Noble Center.

Five takeaways from the two Oklahoma season-opening victories

  • Oklahoma's two returning starters on the men's side showed up big in leading the way for the season-opening win. Jalon Moore scored a game-high 22 points, including three of five three-point shots, and Sam Godwin contributed 11 points and was a huge force on the boards bringing down 15 rebounds.
  • Head coach Porter Moser wants the Sooner men to play up-tempo and create offense from their defense. Against Lindenwood, Oklahoma scored 29 points off of fast breaks.
  • Five Sooners scored in double digits in the win over Lindenwood and eight OU players scored at least five points in the game.
  • The OU women led by 25 points at the half (40-15) and by 41 points in the fourth quarter (74-33).
  • The OU women ruled the boards in their season-opening win against Southern, outrebounding the Jaguars 54-21.
