Oklahoma fans have already read this before, but Bob Stoops is retiring from coaching football.
Stoops on Monday released a statement to announce he's retiring from coaching after three seasons as head coach of the Dallas Renegades in the UFL and XFL.
OU legend Bob Stoops announces retirement as Dallas Renegades coach
"After much thought and reflection, I’ve made the decision to retire from coaching and step away from the game of football," Stoops said in his statement. "Coaching has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and closing this chapter comes with lots of gratitude. ...
"To the fans -- you are the heartbeat of this sport. Your passion, energy, and unwavering support have meant the world to me. Coaching for you has been one of the greatest joys of my career."
One of one. Thank you, Coach 🖤

This is the second time Stoops has retired from coaching. He retired as Oklahoma's head coach in 2016 after leading the Sooners for 17 seasons. However, in 2020, Stoops got back into coaching to join the upstart UFL as head coach and general manager of the Dallas Renegades, who have also went by the Arlington Renegades. The UFL lasted just one season before going under, but the league was then revived in 2023 as the XFL. That season, Stoops led the Renegades to the first-ever XFL championship.
Between those stints in professional football, Stoops also briefly stepped back into college football in 2021 to heroically lead the Sooners as interim head coach to a win over Arizona in the Alamo Bowl after Lincoln Riley left for USC.
Stoops did not elaborate on what his future plans are other than to be with family, but considering he's 65 years old, the Sooners are in good hands with Brent Venables and there shouldn't another upstart pro football league in the works, this likely really is the end to Stoops' legendary coaching career.
