There's no denying Bob Stoops knows ball, so if he's excited about something, so should the rest of Sooner Nation.

Stoops, an Oklahoma Sooners legend who still lives in Norman, discussed the rumor of Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles becoming OU's next DC when Stoops was on KREF Sports Radio on Monday.

First off, Stoops believes the rumor of Knowles being a serious candidate for OU. Knowles was even asked about the rumor leading up to the Buckeyes' win in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game and he did not deny anything.

"Well, I hope it's true," Stoops said. "I really do. It would've surprised me -- I said that, I think, last week -- but the fact that he hasn't said that there's nothing to it by now, then there has to be something to it, which is great."

Let's not think Stoops doesn't still have any kind of inside information at OU. He's still involved with the football program and close to Brent Venables. If these were outrageous rumors, then Stoops would at least know that much and say so.

Stoops not only didn't deny the possibility, but also raved about the hire.

"I think it's a fantastic hire," Stoops continued. "I think he's done a really great job everywhere he's been, and he's doing a great job right now with Ohio State. I think it'd be a home run.

"But, yeah, like I said, the fact that nothing has been solidified or said definitively to this point, there must be something to it, which is great. I'm all for it."

Ohio State's season just finished Monday night with a national championship after beating Notre Dame 34-23 in the College Football Playoff final. Now that the Buckeyes' season is finally over, we should soon learn whether this rumor really is true or not.
