Even after a trip to Puerto Rico to compete in a pair of scrimmages, the Oklahoma basketball team made a significant addition on Thursday.
According to multiple reports, former SMU guard B.J. Edwards will transfer to OU, joining Porter Moser's squad after being granted a fifth year of collegiate eligibility by a court ruling in Tennessee. Edwards adds another veteran piece to a Sooners team that has added multiple experienced players through the transfer portal and other avenues during the offseason.
After failing to reach the NCAA Tournament in 2026, Moser has assembled an intriguing squad ahead of the 2026-27 campaign that includes a handful of solid options in the backcourt.
Edwards, the team's newest addition, will seemingly fill a starting spot in OU's lineup after averaging 12.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.3 steals per game while shooting 47.4% from the field and 37.2% from 3-point range in 2025-26.
Across the first four years of Edwards' career, the two-time ACC All-Defense honoree appeared in 110 games with 93 starts. The former SMU and Tennessee guard adds another piece with plenty of experience to the Sooners' backcourt after the team picked up a player with a similar resume earlier in the offseason.

Pop Isaacs, who previously played at Texas Tech and Creighton, transferred to Oklahoma after spending the 2025-26 season with Texas A&M. In his lone year with the Aggies, Isaacs averaged 9.8 points, 2.6 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game while shooting 42.2% from the field and 39.6% from beyond the arc.
In four seasons, Isaacs has played 100 NCAA games and made 74 starts. Now, the former four-star recruit will look to earn a spot in Moser's rotation at OU, and will likely be a solid option off the bench for the Sooners.
Alongside Isaacs and Edwards, the Sooners return veteran guard Xzayvier Brown, who played at Oklahoma last season after spending the first two seasons of his NCAA career at Saint Joseph's.
Brown averaged 15.4 points, 3.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game with the Sooners, shooting 45.6% from the field and 34.3% from deep. After a strong debut season in the SEC, the rising senior will likely serve as OU's lead guard once again in 2026-27.
Dayton Forsythe also returns for his third season in Norman after averaging 5.3 points, 1.8 assists and 1.4 rebounds per game while shooting 33.6% from the field and 28.1% from 3-point range as a sophomore. Forsythe dealt with injuries in 2025-26, and was more efficient as a shooter in 2024-25.
Similar to Isaacs, Forsythe will also provide a reliable depth piece for Oklahoma in 2026-27.
Incoming freshman Quincy Wadley rounds out Moser's backcourt for the upcoming campaign. Rated the No. 44 overall player and No. 7 shooting guard in the 2026 recruiting class by 247Sports, Wadley's role for the 2026-27 season isn't clear, but the four-star prospect will likely be a major factor in the Sooners' rotation.
