Baker Mayfield biggest snub of NFL Pro Bowl

Baker Mayfield has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL this season, yet, he's somehow not even a Pro Bowler.

The NFL on Thursday announced the 2025 Pro Bowl Game selections, and although six former Sooners made the cut, Mayfield, somehow, did not.

The NFC quarterbacks selected were the Washington Commanders' Jayden Daniels, Minnesota Vikings' Sam Darnold and Detroit Lions' Jared Goff. With one week of the regular season left, Mayfield has more passing TDs than all of them and more passing yards than everyone but Goff, was labeled as the starter.

This season, Mayfield how thrown for 4,279 yards and 39 TDs compared to 15 interceptions. He and the Cincinnati Bengals' Joe Burrow are the only quarterbacks in the entire NFL to be in the top 3 of both major passing categories.

Outside of passing numbers, Mayfield has also led the Tampa Buccaneers to a 9-7 record and has them one win away from an NFC South title. If the Buccaneers beat the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Mayfield will lead the Bucs to a division championship and the NFL playoffs both of his seasons as their starting quarterback.

Daniels, Goff and Darnold are all on teams that have clenched playoff berths with better records, so that's really the only argument for that trio against Mayfield. Of the four, though, Mayfield is surrounded by less talent as the only one not throwing to a Pro Bowl receiver all season.

For comparison, Darnold has had a breakout season with 4,153 passing yards and 35 TDs, but he's still right behind Mayfield in both categories while throwing to one of the best receivers in the NFL in Justin Jefferson. Goff gets the luxury of Amon-Ra St. Brown and Daniels has Terry McLaurin.

Meanwhile, Mayfield has turned rookie third-round pick Jalen McMillan into a star with a touchdown catch in four straight games. Mayfield's No. 1 receiver, Mike Evans, missed three games this season while battling injuries and still has 915 receiving yards and 11 TDs.

Most recently, Mayfield is coming off a performance that earned him NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. He threw for five TDs and 359 yards in a win against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The reality is, Mayfield, a former No. 1 draft pick out of Oklahoma who spent time as a journeyman, should be an MVP candidate. The title of Pro Bowler shouldn't have been in question.
