Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze is forgetting to take his grandpa's advice and move on.
Days after the Tigers' 24-17 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners, Freeze was still salty while blaming officiating for his team's loss and even taking jabs at the still undefeated Sooners.
Hugh Freeze blaming officiating and claiming Texas A&M is better than OU
Freeze was in front of a mic a lot on Monday between his weekly press conference ahead of Auburn's matchup with Texas A&M and his coaches show, "Tiger Talk."
“Disappointing loss," Freeze said during the opening statement of his presser. "The plays were there for us to have a chance to beat a quality opponent on the road in this league. We’ve got to learn how to win those games, and it starts with us as coaches."
Freeze admitted the loss fell on him and his staff, but then spent the rest of the day blaming everyone else.
“There were quite a few that I disagreed with," Freeze said referencing calls. "I have great respect for our SEC office and the job that they do, and they have a tough job. It’s a fine line. You want so badly to defend your team, your players, your university. It’s a difficult position. I try to have respect for all sides. It’s certainly hard to just accept.
"My grandfather always told me that life’s not fair, get used to it and move on. That’s been my approach this morning for our team. We’re going to move on to (Texas) A&M."
However, hours later on "Tiger Talk," Freeze was still taking jabs at the Sooners. After honoring Bruce Pearl for his retirement as Auburn's men's basketball coach, Freeze was then asked to just share his general thoughts about his team's loss to OU.
"I think we possibly could have won (that) game by two scores," Freeze said. "It’s frustrating. We don’t have time to pout, for sure. I think this next team (Texas A&M) is more complete than Oklahoma.”
It's odd to belittle a team that just beat you. The Tigers also had a late lead, but then let the Sooners drive down for a touchdown. Auburn then got the ball back with 4:54 left with an opportunity to tie the game, but then just went backward and ended up in its own end zone for a game-sealing safety instead of on the other end of the field for a game-tying TD. The Tigers failed to get even with the Sooners, let alone up by two scores.
The Sooners seem to be haunting Freeze, at least until he's bothered next week by a loss from Texas A&M since the Aggies are apparently better.
