As expected, Baker Mayfield was absolute gold on the ManningCast

Baker Mayfield was a guest during ESPN’s ManningCast with Peyton and Eli Manning, and Mayfield was almost as entertaining as he would be if he was actually playing during Monday Night Football.

From immediately trolling Peyton to joking about his arrest in Fayetteville while he was Oklahoma’s quarterback, Mayfield made the most of his time with the Manning brothers as the Arizona Cardinals beat the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night.

Baker Mayfield trolls Peyton Manning about Oklahoma's win over Tennessee

The appearance came just two days after Mayfield’s Sooners beat Peyton’s Tennessee Volunteers 33-27 on Saturday in Knoxville. That created the chance for Mayfield to do two of his favorite things: talk trash and rep his alma mater.

“Before we get started, can we agree this is an NFL show? We shouldn’t discuss Tennessee-Oklahoma at any point,” Peyton said.

Mayfield was ready and put on an OU hat before Peyton even finished his statement. Eli, whose Ole Miss Rebels beat the Sooners two weeks before, just laughed at the joke and fortunately didn’t chime in with all the bragging rights.

Mayfield’s OU days came up again later when the Mannings showed highlights of Mayfield making plays with his legs. Eli asked Mayfield if he ever practiced scrambling.

“I tried one time in Fayetteville, Arkansas,” Mayfield joked in reference to his infamous arrest. “It didn’t go too well. I wound up getting arrested. But I’ve improved since then. So, you know, just finding time whenever I can.”

The Sooners were consistently mentioned during the appearance with Mayfield’s former teammate CeeDee Lamb playing for the Cowboys as Mayfield watched with the Manning brothers. Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, who replaced Mayfield at OU after he left, did not play because of an injury, but Murray and Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts also threw to Lamb while in Norman.

“I’ll tell you what, he’s got so many natural gifts, but his body control in the air,” Mayfield said. “And he’s such a natural pass-catcher. It’s always into his hands. I know he’s had some drops this year that he gets frustrated about, but he’s so good at it I think he takes it for granted sometimes taking his eye off it. But his body control in the air, I’ve never seen anything like it, and that’s from the time he was 18 years old.”

Even outside of OU-related talk, Mayfield still had entertaining moments between predicting plays, discussing his alter ego and more while on the ManningCast. Obviously he’ll sometimes have to play during that time as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' quarterback, but few football fans would argue against having Mayfield with the Manning brothers every Monday night.
