The answer to Oklahoma’s tight end problem could already be in the state

The Oklahoma Sooners are in dire need of help at tight end, but they shouldn't have to search far to find what they need.

Just up the highway, Tulsa tight end Brody Foley is expected to enter the Transfer Portal once it officially opens on Friday. Saturday Blitz ranks Foley as the No. 4 tight end expected to transfer during this cycle.

The Sooners were also on the hunt for tight ends in the portal this time last year and looked to the Group of Five ranks (and even Division II), but unlike Foley, none of OU's 2025 additions to the position had actually produced at the lower level. As common sense predicted, none of the Sooners' new transfer tight ends emerged as big-time contributors and could be hitting the portal again.

Converted linebacker Jaren Kanak ended up being the Sooners' best tight end this season. Kanak exhausted his eligibility, though, and so did backup TE Will Huggins, who transferred from Division-II Pittsburg State last year. Redshirt sophomore Kaden Helms, a former consensus four-star recruit, had promise for 2026, but he's already expected to transfer.

That leaves OU tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley again needing talent, and his shortest trip should be his first before Foley leaves the Sooner State.

Foley started his career at Indiana for three years before transferring to Tulsa for a breakout 2025 season. With one year of eligibility left as a junior in 2025, Foley, listed at 6-foot-6, asserted himself as an NFL Draft prospect, but instead chose for one more season of college football elsewhere.

This season, Foley caught 37 passes for 528 yards and seven touchdowns in 11 games, plus two rushing scores. He found the end zone in over half of the games he played in, including three times against Temple. As a tight end, Foley led the Golden Hurricane in receiving yards and TDs, with only one other player catching multiple TD passes this season for Tulsa.

After the season, Foley was named First-Team All-AAC.

Foley has the size to compete in the SEC and production to prove he's worthy unlike Finley's past misses, so this is a talent the Sooners can't let leave their state to fill their biggest need from the portal.
