All that Arch Manning hype was killed with just one half of bad football

Talk about overhyped.

There was no way Texas quarterback Arch Manning could live up to the years of hype built up for him, but Manning barely even looked like he belonged on the field in his first half as QB1 for the Longhorns.

The No. 1 Longhorns trailed the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes 7-0 after a defensive stalemate in the first half of the game of the week in college football Week 1. Manning went to the locker room with only 26 yards on 5-of-10 passing. He also had 13 rushing yards on five carries.

College football fans already noticing Manning was overhyped

It was a tiny sample size in a tough environment, but for months we heard Manning was supposed to be the Heisman Trophy winner with the best preseason odds and a future No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick. But like few tried to argue all offseason, maybe there was a reason Manning sat behind seventh-round draft pick Quinn Ewers for two years.

The commotion about Manning has been so absurd that FOX Sports even posted his first pass attempt of the season, which was an incomplete pass that was severely under thrown, like it was some kind of historical moment.

This was from just this morning before kickoff.

One pass clearly wasn't enough evidence to pass judgment, but it could have been since that first attempt was an omen for the rest of the half from Manning, who looked out of place the whole time. And those few who said all preseason to hold your Longhorns on that Manning hype looked like the real ball knowers.

There's no need to overreact after just one half of football, or even one entire game, but all we've ever heard about Manning were overreactions, so it's hard not to from the other side. Even the first preview, though, was enough to show he's not at the standards set for him yet.
